Welcome to ILKON

ILKON is the home of Ilkeston Contemporary Arts which is housed in the former Methodist church on Heanor Road, bringing creative arts to the community and wider region.

ILKON is not a made-up word, it is from the old English ‘ IL’KON ‘ meaning ‘each one, every one’ and appears in Geoffrey Chaucer’s ‘The Second Nun’s Tale’ about the life of Saint Cecilia - who by coincidence graces one of the beautiful stained-glass windows of the church which had been generously donated by the local community in 1936.
