An exciting contemporary museum in Ilkeston, Derbyshire
The founder of the Ilkon Gallery attended Ilkeston Grammar School 1967-1975 and had the most wonderful free education with inspirational teachers.
None more so than Dr Richard Venning who taught art and so much more with his energy and enthusiasm for painting, music, and life. Dr Venning managed to put the art into the context of the society in which it was produced - whether it be antiquity, the Renaissance, the Impressionists or his particular passion for modern art in general, and Andy Warhol in particular.
The education room at Ilkon is named after Dr Richard Venning who sadly is no longer with us but continues to inspire.
